Walter Lee Douglas (aka MULE), was born on April 26, 1946 in Anson County, NC to the late Furman Lee and Edna Little Douglas. He departed this life on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Duke Regional Hospital.
He attended the Durham Public Schools. He had worked at Longwork Café. He also worked at D.W. Ward Construction Company and was a worker on the United House of Prayer. Walter later worked at Tyndall’s until his health declined.
Walter joined the United House of Prayer at an early age.
On November 18, 1966, he married Betty Jean Mewborn and they were the parents of four girls.
Walter was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Douglas; two grandchildren, Little Walter Douglas and Darnell Little; his parents, Furman Lee and Edna Douglas; his brother, John Junior Douglas; and two sisters, Doris Jean Douglas McDonald and Cleola Wiley.
Walter leaves to cherish his memories, four daughters, Patricia (Harris) Williams, of Durham, NC, Angela (Joe) Smith of Charlotte, NC, Terry Douglas of Charlotte, NC and Waletta (Ulas) Byrd of Long Island, NY; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; three sisters, Clara Mae Williams of Durham, NC, Kitoria(Elder Gregory) Watson of Charlotte, NC and Valene Burch of Wadesboro, NC; a brother, Carmello Todd Douglas of Charlotte, NC; a devoted and special friend, Vanessa Brandon of Durham, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews and other friends and loving relatives.
