Aaron Allen Obituary

Aaron Paul Allen, was born in Newark, New Jersey on January 25, 1950 to the late Ellis L. and Beatrice Bynum Allen. Aaron departed this earthly life on Wednesday, August 1, 2018.  

Aaron the eldest son, was raised in Durham, NC.  He attended Durham Public Schools and is a 1967 graduate of Hillside High School.  Aaron was baptized by the Rev. Miles Mark Fisher at White Rock Baptist Church where he was active in youth programs and the Boy Scouts.  He spent his spare time fixing things he tore up and acting with the Hillside High School Drama Swing School, under the direction of John H. Gattis.  Aaron was the neighborhood social lite.  He knew everybody and everybody knew him. 

He attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University as an Electrical Engineer major.  Aaron decided after 2 years that he wanted to travel the world and decided to do so by joining the United States Navy. In the Navy Aaron was assigned to the Sonar Electronics division.  Aaron was active for over 3 years and left due to medical reasons.  He returned to Durham, NC and worked for the Environmental Protection Agency and Durham Public Schools.

Aaron was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his parents, and brother Ellis L. Allen, Jr.  Aaron’s family will remember him as the man who kept us laughing and one who could make you believe that the grass is blue and the sky is green.  To the younger kids in neighborhood Aaron was a genius. 

Left to cherish his memories are two sisters, Ann W. Green(Willie), Durham, NC, Edith Allen Penny (Charles), Rocky Mount, NC, one sister-in-law, Geraldine Allen, Brunswick Ga, three nephews, Anthony Allen Green(Alicia), Ellis L. Allen, III (Valarie), Del Rio, Texas and Charles W. Penny, II (LaTonya), Three nieces, Sharon Green Scott (Curtis), Winston Salem, NC, Lisa V. Green, Durham, NC and Eva Marie Penny, Raleigh, NC.  A very special cousin/brother – Harry “Steve” Gilmore, Durham, NC.  A host of other relatives and friends.
