Ethel (Jackson) Huggins

Ethel Louise Jackson Huggins, daughter of the late William and Mamie Jackson, was born June 25, 1929 in Durham, N.C.

She received her education in the Durham City Schools and graduated from Hillside High School in 1946 at the age of sixteen.  She attended North Carolina Central University, then known as North Carolina College for Negroes-later as North Carolina College at Durham.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to James E. Huggins, Sr. on June 4, 1952.  To this union four children were born.  James preceded her in death on January 20, 2000.

Ethel received her training in the field of nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Duke Hospital, Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, N.C. and later as a private duty nurse for a total of 32 years.

She loved friends and often took trips with them.  They attended lots of sporting events, especially football and basketball.

On November 24, 1993 Ethel and late husband James were “Buried and Baptized into the body of Christ at Southside Church of Christ.  She later became a member of the Golden Wisdom-Sisters in Christ.

She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her loss, a son Rolf Huggins and “loving and devoted daughter” Gloria Huggins Clark; one son-in-law, Jimmie Clark; grandchildren, Kenneth, James E. 3rd, Angela, Michael-Brian, Lance, Kailyn, Phoenix and Cailyn; 8 great grands; one sister, Fannie Scott; one brother William Jackson; one sister-in-law Arnetta Jackson of Newark, N.J.; a host of nieces & nephews & friends and other relatives; a special niece Jacklyn Jackson; a special cousin Ollie Gatheright; my devoted friends to the end and Jo Ann Johnson.
