Mrs. Gladys Lolita Brown Henderson Rennick of Mebane was honored with a birthday party at her home on Feb. 10, 2019, in honor of her 104th birthday.
Her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews from North Carolina, Georgia and Maryland all traveled long distances to celebrate this special day with her.
Gladys was born on Feb. 14, 1915, and is the seventh child of the late Isaac Lawson Brown and Martha Jones Brown.
She grew up on her parents’ farm in Caswell County. Gladys attended Virginia State University for her Bachelor’s degree and North Carolina Central University for her Master’s degree. After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she returned to her native Caswell County where she taught in the Caswell County school system. She retired in 1977 after 40 years of service. Her former students still honor the positive impact Mrs. Rennick had on their lives.
She was married to businessman W. Fred Henderson in 1959 until his death in 1984. In 1988, she married attorney John H. Rennick, who is now deceased.
She has been a member of White Rock Baptist Church since 1959 where she sang in the church choir for many years. She is described by family and friends as someone who exemplifies love and devotion to God, family, students and her community.
