Mr. James Ray Evans Sr. transitioned on the morning of Saturday, July 20, 2019 in Durham, North Carolina at the age of 66.
He is survived by his mother Lena Mae Evans, his children James Evans Jr., Narviaria Evans, Ureza Evans, Shuleetha Evans, Jevelo Evans, and Ishmael Evans, his siblings Wade Eades of Fort Washington, Maryland, Marreeser Evans of Durham, NC, Nathaniel Evans of Durham, NC, and Gerald Evans of San Antonio Texas. He is preceded in death by his father Willie Evans and his brother Lawrence Evans.
Mr. James Ray Evans Sr., or “Slim” or “Cool-Ray” as he was known by his friends, was born on January 4, 1953 in Durham, NC to Willie and Lena Mae Evans. He graduated from Hillside High School and later Mr. Evans joined the United States Military- Active Duty in 1973. He married his first, only, and former wife Brenda Smith in 1973. As Mister and Mrs. Evans, the couple welcomed 6 children into the world. His children remember him as a fun, yet, lite hearted jokester who encouraged them to pursue their goals and to be better than he was.
Mr. James Evans Sr. could be spotted a mile away by his tall statue, charm, and smooth charisma. He was an individual who loved old-school grooves and libations with his friends and he was proud of his children and passionate about music.
Mr. James Ray Evans Sr. will be missed and never forgotten by many yet he leaves his legacy of strong-will and determination that is undoubtedly reflected in the hearts and lives of his children and other family members.
