Luvenia (Harris) Seagers

April 8, 1921 ~ January 6, 2019 (age 97)

Mother Luvenia Harris Seagers, 97, departed this earthly life on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at her home in Durham, North Carolina.  She was born April 8, 1921 to the late Ruffin and Henrietta Palmer Harris in Goldston, North Carolina.

She attended Goldston Public Schools and played basketball for the school team.

At an early age, she joined Robert Chapel Baptist Church.  In 1939, Mother Luvenia moved to Durham, North Carolina and joined Gateway to Heaven Holiness Church.  She was very active as President of the Usher Board, Superintendent of Sunday School, organist for the Senior Choir, organizer of Homecoming and other activities at Gateway UHCA.

Mother Luvenia passions were sewing making beautiful clothes; reading her Bible becoming more knowledgeable of God’s word; encouraging and uplifting others whether or not family in kind deeds through the church and neighborhood.  Mother Luvenia loved life, sitting on her front porch  feeling gifts of God—His bright sunshine, cool breezes and watching her flowers grow.

In 1972 Mother Luvenia was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Bennie Seagers.

Preceding her in death were three sisters, Stellar Shaw, Olia Headen, Lessie James and a brother, James Harris.

Mother leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted and loving daughter, Edna Maxine H. Johnson; grandson Eric H. Harris (the love of her life), Annie Retha Harris, Bennie Seagers, Jr. (Sharon); four great grandchildren, India, Siera, Jasmine Harris, Sheineta Lyons of Durham, N.C.  She also considered Freddie Edwards of Baltimore, Maryland.  She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
