Peggy Bettylou Poole Waddell was born on May 6, 1938 in Durham, NC to Wade Poole and Estelle Farrar.
She grew up and maintained residence in various parts of Durham, including Hickstown and Northern Durham. She graduated from Hillside High School as a proud hornet in 1957.
She worked at Tip Top Fish House on Hillsborough rd, before landing a 3rd shift job in the Radiology Department at Duke Medical Center. She worked as a file room clerk for 26 years, making friends along the way, even working with her son and future daughter-in-law at one point. As she neared retirement, she worked part-time during the dinner rush, running the salad bar at Quincy’s on Roxboro Road.
Peggy was a member of the Bull City Elks Lodge #317 IBPOEW for over 20 years. She remained an active member until earlier this year.
Peggy departed this life on October 29, 2018, after a brief illness. She is survived by her spouse Elmer, 1 son: Curtis (Cecillia), 2 stepsons: Elmer (Michelle) and Frank, and 5 grandchildren: Shannon, Jazzmine, Maurice, Kyiri, Madison; as well as numerous family and friends.
Peggy was a peaceful woman, but could be fiesty if you got her wound up. She will be surely missed, as she was loved by all.
