Robert Louis ("Uncle Sweetie") McArthur

Robert Louis McArthur “Uncle Sweetie” was born November, 11, 1932 in Durham, NC to the late Marie McArthur Hopkins and John McArthur.  He departed this life on July 15, 2019 at the Durham VA Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by brothers Ronald, James, and Garland McArthur.

At an early age, Robert joined the United States Army and served from 1950- 1953, during the  Korean War. Upon discharge, he lived in Brooklyn, NY for over 10 years where he held various jobs. He was also an amateur boxer and songwriter. He moved back to Durham  in the late 1960s, where he resided with his mother until her passing in 1989. He then resided with his sister and her family for over 25 years, until he passed to his heavenly home.

He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories, his devoted sister Dorothy L. McArthur McLaughlin, niece Jennifer McLaughlin, nephew Nathaniel McLaughlin, Jr, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
