Thelma Louise (Shepard) Cofield

Thelma Louise Shepard-Cofield was born March 25, 1941 to Rosalee Shepard and James Adams of Durham NC.

She departed her life on August 15, 2019 peacefully, at the age of 78. She received her education from Durham Public Schools.  After high School she moved to Long Island, NY where she started working as a driver for handicap children for over 20 years.  During this time she was united in holy matrimony to the late John Cofield Sr., with this union they were blessed with seven children.. After her husband deceased she decided to move back to Durham, NC to be with her family.  She was a fun loving person, a mother to many and a wonderful and loyal friend who thought R Kelly would be her next husband (If I could make the world dance) was her favorite song.  During her lifetime she participated in several bowling leagues, a lover of R&B music and loved to dance.

She was proceeded in death by her husband John Cofield Sr.; one son Mark A Cofield and a daughter in law Tina Cofield,

She leaves to cherish six children, Deborah Tynes (Arthur) of Greensboro NC, Robin Cofield of the home, John Cofield Jr. of Uniondale NY, Regina Cofield of Georgia, Warren Cofield of Brooklyn NY and Christoper Cofield; one aunt Viola Stephens, two sisters Justina Shepard Patterson (Anthony) of Durham, NC and Elaine Laws (Andre) of Durham NC.  Also she leaves to cherish three daughter in laws Regina, Ramona and Shakinah; twelve grandchildren, seven great grand- children, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and three special friends Marcy, Leroy and Vivian.  She will truly be missed by the many lives that she has touched within her life journey. May the gates to heaven open to receive her.
