Walter Conrad Pattillo was born September 27, 1960 in Tuskegee Institute, Alabama to outstanding educators, Constance T. and Walter H. Pattillo Jr. In 1961, Walter and his family moved to Durham, North Carolina, where he graduated from Hillside High School in 1978 and started his college career at Hampton Institute. After one year, he transferred to Howard University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science in 1984.
Walter married Arlene Bynum in 1990 in Durham, NC. Of this union, Kyra Bynum-Pattillo, who he adored, was born in San Ramon, CA. Kyra will be graduating from Spelman College in May 2019.
Walter’s professional career led him across the country. He served as a Computer Software Consultant for companies such as Glaxo Smith-Kline (RTP, NC), Exxon (Baton Rouge, LA), Chevron (San Ramon, CA), Microsoft and Boeing (Seattle, WA), Johnson C. Smith Univeristy (Charlotte, NC) and Wells Fargo (Charlotte, NC), just to name a few.
In addition to his accomplishments, Walter was a loving, well—read and selfless man. He strived to give more to others than to himself, especially to his family. Walter never met a stranger and could hold a conversation with just about everyone. He had a never-ending love for music, especially jazz, and books. His laughter and wit will truly be missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Kyra; mother, Constance T.; former wife, Arlene Bynum; niece and nephew, Chelsea and Troy (Buffy and Alexander) Mosley; brother-in-law, Louis Mosley; his cousin, Sherann (Thomas) Mack; and the rest of the Bynum Women”.
Walter was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl (Pattillo) Mosley, and his father, Walter H. Pattillo Jr. in April and May of 2018.
Walter passed peacefully at home on February 10, 2019
