Alton Gillis

Alton Gillis was born on September 12, 1947 in Southern Pines, NC to the late Albert McAllister and late Annie Pearl Heard. Alton transitioned from this earthly life on Thursday, August 1, 2019.  “Alton” completed his education from West Southern Pines High School.

Alton was a loving husband and father. He was a man of few words but had a heart of gold. Alton spent most of his adult life in Portchester, New York, where he met and married his loving wife, Brenda. He was well known and loved by family and friends in New York. They called him “Mr. G” and “Hip Daddy” of Purdy Ave.  He worked hard all his life enjoying all his family and his love for cars. One of his favorite cars was a Z 28 Camaro.  Alton will be missed.

To cherish those memories, he leaves his wife, Brenda Chambless Gillis; his sons, Alton Gillis, Corey Gillis; his daughter, Brenda Gillis; grandchildren, Keanna Gillis, Taniya Gillis, Corsha Gillis, Ziarey Gillis, Reyshan Gillis, Javerin Smith; great-grandchildren, Rashad Traylor and Rhyanne Traylor; brothers, Edward Gillis, Truman McAllister, Chris Gillis, Herbert McAllister; sisters, Alberta Morrison, Roberta Jackson, Terry Barnes, Gloria McAllister, and Anna McLean; and a host of other relatives and friends.
