Angelena Susan Garnes, affectionately known as “Miss Ann”, was born on February 10, 1950.  She passed from this life at home on Sunday, February 12, 2023.  She suffered from a long illness but was being cared for by her loving son.

Angelena, the youngest of three children, was born in Manhattan, NY.  She was raised in Faison, NC where she helped her grandparents with their agriculture business on family-owned land. Upon graduation from Douglass High School in 1968, Miss Ann attended North Carolina Central University where she met and married Theodis Swinton, Sr. To this union they were blessed with two children.

 Angelena went on to become gainfully employed by IBM and was able to purchase her own single-family home.  Post retirement, she opened Miss Ann’s Daycare where she obtained a five-star rated license to operate.  She devoted her time to nurturing children through her business until she became disabled.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Hilton and Thelma Lee Garnes; brother, Hilton Garnes Jr.; sister: Mable Taylor; grandparents: Thomas and Susan Faison; former husband, Theodis Swinton, Sr.

 She leaves to cherish her memories and legacy, two children: son, Theodis Swinton, Jr. of NC and daughter, Lorraine Vernetta Swinton of LA; six grand-children: Ayauna Angelena Swinton, Korey Swinton, Nakessa Lorraine Swinton, Terryn J’nai Whitted, Quinn Swinton, Grant Anthony Swinton; nephews: Tommy Taylor; Hilton Garnes III, Desmondo Swinton; nieces: Gayla Garnes Moore, Stephanie Ann Taylor, Apryl Gilmore, Adrienne and Jasmine Swinton; sisters-in-love: Gloria Garnes, Betty Smith, Deborah Swinton, Vernita Swinton, Cheryl Steed; brothers-in-love: Ellis Swinton, Sr., Larry Swinton. Leon Swinton; a host of family and friends.
