China Louise Jones-Pruitt was born July 3, 1934 in Durham, NC to Robert Jones, Sr. and Rosetta Dixon Jones and finished her earthly journey, January 20, 2021 in Scarsdale, NY.
She spent her childhood and early adulthood in Durham and was a 1952 graduate of Hillside High School.
After moving to New York, she received her B.S.N. in Philosophy and Nursing Education and later received a M.A. in Community Health/Philosophy/Ethics.For over 20 years, her work involved nursing care, supervision, and training for nursing assistants.She served as a liaison between New York City Department of Human Resources and other agencies.
In addition, Ms. Jones-Pruitt opened a direct care center serving homeless and disabled populations and served as the first director of transitional housing residence that served the populations.She supervised direct care, administration and maintenance.In this role she also counseled individuals and groups about independent living, substance abuse and time management for residents, family members and staff.
Ms. Jones-Pruitt received several Certificates of Achievement and Appreciation for computer skills, generous donations to charitable causes for veterans, the National Campaign of Tolerance for her personal and public stand against hate, injustice, and intolerance.She also received appreciation for service to people with disabilities and support in the battle of cancer.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, James R. Jones and Joseph Jones.She also suffered the loss of her beloved son, Kim Jeffrey Pruitt in 2003.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Wanda Pruitt-Bailey, Grand-daughters Charmagne Tellis and Camille Wallace and a host of nieces and nephews.
