Clara Cole Obituary

The service for Ms. Cole will be live streamed on the Facebook Page of Fisher Memorial Funeral Parlor

Clara Ruth Cole affectionately known to many as “Mamie” of Durham, North Carolina was born on April 5, 1930, to the late Dallas Cole, Sr., and Carrie Womack Cole. She is preceded in death by four brothers: Dallas Jr., William, Earle, and Leon, and one sister, Alma.

She was reared in the Brookstown community (Thaxton Avenue) where she lived until Hwy 147 displaced the community. She then moved to the Mutual Heights community where she lived over 50 years.

She attended North Carolina College for a couple of years. She decided to complete her studies at Durham Technical College to become a nurse. Clara enjoyed taking  care of others.

She retired from Duke University Medical Center in 1991 after 35 years of service as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

She was a longtime member of West Durham Baptist Church where she sang in the Gospel, Women’s, and  Senior choirs where she was a featured soloist. Her soprano  voice was beautiful. She participated in the live album recording entitled “MUSIC FROM THE WEST DURHAM BAPTIST CHURCH “

Clara was Kathy’s biggest supporter all throughout her life. She made sure Kathy had everything a child could ever want. In other words, she spoiled Kathy “rotten”. Clara was instrumental in Kathy’s matriculation into the  respectful, caring, and beautiful woman she is today. Their mother/daughter bond was inseparable to the very end. Kathy always stated she would “never ever-ever” leave her side. Clara moved into Kathy’s home in March of 2015 and received the best care and love any child could give. Clara also shared a very special bond with her sister, Cora. She adored and loved Cora. She relied on Cora to keep Kathy straight. She supported Cora in all of her activities and accomplishments throughout the years until her health declined.

She leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her life her daughter, Kathy Renee Cole; a sister, Cora Cole-McFadden; a Sister-in-law, Shirley T. Cole; nieces, Lori McFadden, (Durham, NC,) Renee Cole, (Charlotte, NC) Tamara Adams, (Jacksonville, Florida) and Ebony Cole, (Greensboro, NC,); nephew, Larry McFadden Jr, (Sherman Oaks, California)
