Clara Naomi Harris “Ninkie” Scott, age 89, passed peacefully on May 29, 2021 after a lengthy illness. She was born on July 16, 1931 to the late Mattie and Richard Wesley Harris in Oxford, NC.
At an early age, she joined Belton Creek Baptist Church in Oxford, NC. After relocating to Durham, NC, she attended Mount Gilead Baptist Church and Union Baptist Church.
She was educated in Granville County Schools. She retired from Murdoch Center in Butner, NC after more than 30 years of service and received various awards and certifications.
Her passion included traveling, baking her famous yeast rolls, going on daily walks with the ladies of “Craver Creek” and spending time with her family.
Clara was a dedicated member of The Thrifty Saver’s Club and Saturday Morning Brunch Club which she truly enjoyed.
She was formerly married to Walter D. Scott and to this union six children were born. One son, Wayne Scott preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her love and memories, four daughters, Gloria S. Sellars (David), Clara “Vickie” Sellars (Harold) and Janet L. Scott, all of Durham, NC and Annette D. Scott (Frank) of Charlotte, NC; one son, William D. Scott of Atlanta, GA; a special son, Tray Stevson of Durham, NC; one daughter-in-law, DeCarla B. Scott of Cherry Hill, NJ; three sisters, Lena H. Reid (Willie) of Jamestown, NC, Carrie H. Taylor (Elbert) of Oxford, NC and Delois H. Cooper (James) of Whitsett, NC; two brothers, Wesley Harris (Marjorie) of Charlotte, NC and Lawrence Harris (Lenora) of Oxford, NC; ; one sister-in-law, Margaret S. Mangum of Pennsauken, NJ; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, friends and relatives who mourn her loss.
