FACE MASKS ARE STRONGLY URGED!!!
It is with deep love and sadness that we share the passing of Conway Eddie Harris, 79, of Durham, North Carolina. Conway passed away peacefully at home on December 7, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most.
Born at Duke Hospital, Conway was the son of Charles Conway Jackson Harris and Effie Earp Harris. He grew up in Durham and proudly graduated with the Durham High School Class of 1965.
In 1966, Conway answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War era. He served honorably for four years and was stationed in Korea. His respect for his fellow servicemen and women lasted a lifetime. He later continued his education at Durham Technical Institute from 1970 to 1972.
Conway married the love of his life, Marian Draughon Harris, and together they built a family grounded in laughter, loyalty, and enduring love. He is survived by his wife Marian and their two children: Conway “Deuce” Harris, II and wife Brooke Leahy Harris, and Meredith Harris Daugherty and husband Jay Daugherty. Conway was immensely proud of his grandchildren, Grey and Wells Harris, and Maryssa and husband Adam Rorrer, Mellany, Maddie, and Bella Daugherty, each of whom brought him great joy.
A gifted tradesman, Conway worked for many years as an electrician for American Tobacco Co. and the Liggett Group. Later, he founded and operated HIS Alarm, a business providing residential security systems to countless Durham residents. Through his work, many homes were made safer—and many friendships were formed.
A celebration of Conway’s life will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 3610 Hillandale Rd, Durham, NC 27705. The family will receive friends beginning at 3:00 PM, followed by the service from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
There will be a live stream for those that cannot attend in person, more details will follow.
Conway had one special request: that those who knew him be given the chance to share funny stories and joyful memories. A brief time during the service will be reserved for sharing. If time is limited, or if you are unable to attend, the family would be honored for you to share your memories using the link below:
