Dallas Hamlett Sr Obituary

“Sadly missed along Life’s way, quietly remembered every day…

No Longer in our Life to share, but in our hearts, you’re always there”

Dallas Walter Hamlett, Sr.  son of the late Luke Trinity Hamlett and Sallie Hurt Hamlett, departed this life on Sunday, February 09, 2020 following a brief illness.  Dallas was married to Emily Marie Parker Hamlett for over 60 years who preceded him in death. He was born and reared in Brookneal, Virginia, attending Virginia County Public Schools.  Dallas was from a large family, brothers, Carl, Charlie, Matthew, Frank, Johnnie and sisters, Lettie, Sarah, Florence, Lilly, and Ophila preceded him in death.

Dallas worked for Birmingham Construction Company for over 40 years as a carpenter, building homes and office buildings throughout the city of Durham.  If you were to walk through old Duke University Medical Center-South there are several patient rooms and hallways he had a hand in building, including the Tunnel that connects the parking lot to the hospital.  After retiring from Birmingham Construction Company, he worked part-time as a cabinet maker and later tried his hand at making furniture for his home and family members.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Brenda Jordan-Choate, Dallas W. Hamlett, Jr.  and wife Joyce, Shirley Hamlett, Jacqueline (Jackie) Lawson, Tracey Hamlett and Sandra Hamlett, his sister Maude Mitchell, his brothers John Hamlett and Lieutenant  Hamlett , 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws,  brother-in-laws and a host of nieces and nephews.
