Mrs. Devie Anna Lane Smith was born September 23, 1956 to the late JB and Mary Lane in Philadelphia, PA. She gained her heavenly wings on January 30, 2020 in her home.
Devie was educated in the School District of Philadelphia, PA. graduating from Girls High School in 1971.
While in Philadelphia, Devie had several jobs including the Philadelphia Urban League were she worked as a housing specialist. Devie later relocated to Durham, NC where she worked for ABC and Durham’s Best Cab Companies as a dispatcher for many years before she retired.
Upon her retirement, Devie enjoyed traveling to Charlotte to spend time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Devie was a smart woman who enjoyed playing cards, organizing and volunteering. Devie was an activist with a passion for improving the quality of life of those around her. Before her death, Devie was organizing the tenants of McDougald Terrace to address their housing conditions.
Devie was preceded in death by her parents JB & Mary Lane and her husband, Jerome Smith.
Devie leaves to cherish her memory, four children, KiKia Lane of Charlotte, NC, Jamal Lane of Pittsburg, PA, Jordan Lane of Durham, NC, and Karima Lane (Chris) of Charlotte, NC.; four grandchildren, Khadejha Lane Clawson (Jeffrey), Donte McRae (Mary), Dion McRae, and Jasmine McRae all of Charlotte, NC, eight great grandchildren, Christopher Clawson, Aakyia McRae, Fernando McRae, Donte McRae Jr., Kamani Clawson, Jaylen Clawson, Tyree Lane, and Javion McRae all of Charlotte, NC; two brothers, James Lane of Charlotte, NC, and Larry Lane of Philadelphia, PA, one sister, Peggy Armah of Suitland, MD, three nephews, Majestic Lane of Pittsburgh, PA, William Armah and OT Armah, both of Suitland, MD, two nieces, Renea Everage of Atlanta, GA, and Merci Armah of Suitland, MD, one great niece, Azania Lane and one great nephew, Masiah Lane, both of Pittsburgh, PA, and a host of other relatives and friends.
