Funeral services to celebrate the life for Mrs. Elizabeth Francis Reid. will be held Friday, May 15, 2020 at:
First Calvary Baptist Church, 1311 Morehead Ave., Durham, NC 27707
11:30pm-11:55pm: Viewing for family and friends (See guidelines)
Viewing will allow visitors to pay their last respects to Mrs. Elizabeth Frances Reid in small rotating groups. However, those wishing to attend the viewing must abide by the following City of Durham and First Calvary Baptist Church social distancing guidelines:
No invitation is required for viewing ONLY
No contact with individuals
Facial masks/coverings must be worn at all times
Individuals must remain 6ft apart
Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and will immediately end the viewing
No congregating prior to, during or following the viewing and service on church grounds
No repass will be provided following the viewing and funeral service
No gravesite processional will be held
12:00pm: Funeral service for approved immediate family members by invitation only (See guidelines)
Due to the City of Durham and First Calvary Baptist Church’s COVID-19 restrictions, only 40 family members will be allowed to attend the FUNERAL service. The following City of Durham and First Calvary Baptist Church social distancing guidelines must be adhered to:
EACH family member (per person) MUST present their invitation and name to attend the service
No contact with individuals
Facial masks/coverings must be worn at all times
Individuals must remain seated 6ft apart
Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and will immediately end the service
No congregating prior to, during or following the service on church grounds
No repass will be provided following the funeral service
No gravesite processional will be held
Elizabeth Francis Reid born to Rev. Amzi and Fannie Lowery Reid on May 24,1922 in Durham, NC.
Amzi and Fannie had fourteen children and she was one of the younger children.
She was predeceased by her parents,12 brothers and sisters, special daughter-in-law Sheila Reid, son-in-law who was a considered as a son, Rev. Dr. John Monroe, son-in-law, Gary Blackmon, grand-son-in-law,Orlando Tatum and God daughter Sherie Stevons.
She was educated in Durham County Schools, attended Durham Technical College were she earned two certificates of nursing. Retired after 20years of service at Duke Medical Center as a Laboratory Assistant in the Department of Neurology. She loved to cook, read and sew as well as other crafts. Her love of cooking allowed her to work part time catering to the family of Mr. ad Mrs. Frank Reed for many years.
Baptized at an early age at New Bethel Baptist Church under the pastorate of her brother the late Rev. Dr. Lowery W. Reid where she served faithfully. She later joined First Calvary Baptist Church where she and was a member of the missionary ministry which she dearly loved, enjoyed attending State meetings, the Lott Carey Convention and the annual Senior Luncheon. She was faithful and loved serving the Lord loving and devoted to her family, caring for, nurturing them and others she encountered along her journey in life, fostering many kids and giving to those in need. Everyone she encountered loved her, she was “Granny Reid “to her family and all who knew her. She was a faithful loving mother, grandmother, great -grand mother, great-great grandmother and aunt. Leaving a Legacy of Love and Christian Values.
She leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy six children, Edward Tyrone Reid, Mertice Marie Monroe and Elder James Anthony (Darla) Reid Of Columbus, Ohio, Ralph Lewis (Anita) Reid, LaQuinta Sylvia Blackmon and LoVette Vonta Reid (her loving and devoted caregiver). Sister, Mrs. Margaret Hill, 15 grandchildren,20 great-grand children, 5 great-great grand children, 4 great-great- great grand children, host of nieces, nephews, great and great -great nieces and nephews, extended family, Monroe family of Philadelphia Pa., First Calvary Church family and a host of friends.
