Eric Dwayne ‘E’ Thomas was born on September 21, 1972. He departed this life on October 23, 2021. He was born in Durham, N.C., to Herman and Carolyn Thomas. He was the brother of Gary D. Thomas. The father of Tyrie D. Thomas and Elijah D. Thomas.
Eric grew up in Mount Vernon Baptist Church and gave his life to God at an early age. He participated in Sunday school, children’s choir, and as an officer on the usher board. Eric was a member of the church’s basketball team, coached by his father and the team was a championship-winning team each year. He never lost his roots in the bible and had a good heart.
Eric was educated in Durham Public Schools, a 1990 graduate of Northern High School. He was a regional champion wrestler during high school. Upon graduation, he attended North Carolina Central University and then Winston Salem State University. Eric owned and operated both 4-U Car Wash and Thomas and Son’s Landscaping. Eric’s entrepreneurial spirit led him back to school to become a Certified Chef, which he truly enjoyed. He was currently employed as a Chief Chef at Maggiano’s Little Italy. He loved cooking and was enthusiastic about going to work every day.
Eric leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, Tyrie D. and Elijah D. Thomas; his parents, Herman and Carolyn Thomas; two grandchildren, and brother, Gary D. Thomas; nephew, DeKoryan Oritz and a host of loving uncles, aunts, cousins, and good friends.
