The service for Mrs. Reid will be live streamed on the Facebook Page of Fisher Memorial Funeral Parlor
Erma Lee (Harris) Reid, daughter of the late Albert and Bertha Harris was born May 11, 1932, in Durham, North Carolina, the second born of two children. Her brother, Henry preceded her in death. She departed this life on Friday, April 15, 2022.
Erma accepted Christ at an early age. She was an active member of the Greater Refuge Church in Durham, NC where she was member of the Senior Choir. Erma loved her church and her church family and served diligently until her health decline.
Erma was educated in Durham Public Schools and was a member of the Hillside High School Class of 1951. While in high school she was a talented softball player and although small in stature, stood tall with her teammates against their opponents.
Following High School, she worked in the restaurant and food service business for many years. She worked at several establishments in the Durham area, but was remembered for working at Dillard’s, where she helped prepare their world-famous barbecue. Erma was also known for HER famous Banana Pudding…a recipe that only a few have seen her make, but the recipe remains a secret!
For fun and entertainment, Erma picked up the sport of bowling. Not knowing that she would excel, she quickly showed others that she was a ‘pro’. In a short period of time, she became a respected and elite bowler. She belonged to the United States Bowling Congress and the North Carolina Women’s Bowling Association. Both highlighted her consistently high scores and her competitiveness resulted in numerous awards and trophies.
Erma was the last survivor of her immediate family, and would have reached the tender age of 90, had she lived to see her birthday on May 11, 2022. She loved her family and spent time with her grand and great-grandchildren watching movies, going to the park and just hanging out. She also loved being with her friends socializing, playing cards, going to the sweepstakes and playing scratch offs.
Following a brief illness, Erma’s family acquired the services of Trusted Angels, owned and operated by family friend, Edith Holland-Ingram. Tashia Crawford of Trusted Angels became her ‘Angel’ as her caregiver. They spent time enjoying life and frequenting restaurants. As Erma’s health continued to decline, she was transitioned into Rose Manor for rehabilitation, which then transitioned into palliative/hospice care. In the early morning hours on Friday, April 15, 2022, Erma Lee Reid went to her heavenly home.
Erma was the proud mother of three children, Evette Denise Reid, Veronica Lee Reid Smith, and Qwon Martes Reid (Lori); grandchildren Monica Worley Wallace (Jason), Stanley DeMarcus Worley (Martica), Nicholas Jamal Smith, Zakiya Nicole Smith and Mya Blake Reid; great-grandchildren Taylor Evette Toomer, Nicholas Jamal Smith, Jr., Nevaeh Reign Smith and Nova Leigh Smith. She also leaves to cherish a loving niece, Irena Harris, a great nephew, Van Barbeau, and a host of cousins, relatives, close friends and acquaintances she touched along the way.
