GILDA EVANS PENNY was born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 7,1962 to Joyce Evans and James King. She departed this life Sunday, December 14, 2025, at UNC Hospitals Chapel Hill, NC after an extended illness. Gilda attended Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, Georgia.

She worked for many years as a CNA, where she met many friends that came to be very close and bonded as a bonus family.

Gilda was originally from Atlanta, Georgia and later moved to Chapel Hill to call it home and then met and married the love of her life, Tyrone. Gilda joined Hamlet Chapel CME Church, Pittsboro, NC. Gilda was dedicated to her church and served as the director of the Board of Evangelism for a few years as well as a member of the usher board until her health declined. She hosted a beautiful Valentines Love Banquet event as an evangelism fundraiser. Gilda loved her husband, children and her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. Gilda loved country cooking, hanging out with her precious granddaughter, Saniya, talking junk and spending time laughing with family and friends.

Her daughter, LaShell Evans; Sister, Gwendolyn Evans; Aunt Jacqueline Evans preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Tyrone Penny of Chapel Hill, NC; Son, Anthony Hudson, Jr. (Lawanda); Brother-in-Laws, Conard Penny (Sonia), Lay Sanders; Sister-in-Law, Gabrielle Harris; One Granddaughter, Saniya Williams; Special Cousins, Derek (Krystal) Evans and a host of relatives and friends.
