Gloria Jean Burton was born March 28, 1943, in Durham, North Carolina to her parents, John Wesley and Lena Stewart Roberts.  Gloria grew up in a loving home with five brothers and sisters who all remained close throughout their adult lives.

Gloria was educated in the Durham Public School System and is a graduate of Hillside High School.  She married Clinton Burton on December 3, 1961, and raised 6 children of their own.  Gloria set a wonderful example of motherhood for her daughters and provided love and support for her sons as she raised all of them to be good people in the world.

Gloria was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness and was guided by Psalm 83:18 “May people know that you, whose name is Jehovah. You alone are the Most High over all the earth.”  Throughout her adult life, she supported her Kingdom Hall and will be fondly remembered by her fellow Kingdom Hall members.  

Gloria will mostly be remembered for her kindness and unconditional devotion to her children.  She enjoyed close relationships with each of her 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, and many, many nieces and nephews who will each cherish her memory.

She leaves to celebrate her life her children, Clinton (Slick) Burton Jr (Valitta); Linda Johnson (and spouse Alvin); Steve Burton; Bradley Burton; Barbara Burton; and Bobby Burton.  She also leaves to cherish her memory, her sisters and brothers, Valeretta Roberts; John Roberts, Jr., Marie Roberts and Freddy Roberts.  She was preceded in death by her adoring brother, Calvin Roberts in 2007.
