Mrs. Grace Louise Williams McFadden departed this life Monday evening, September 23, 2024 at her home in Durham, North Carolina. Mrs. McFadden was born September 12, 1924 in Person County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Eula Williams and Mary Whitt Bullock, and the stepdaughter of the late Thomas Bullock.
Mrs. McFadden spent her early years in Person County and came to Durham as a young child; and attended Durham City Schools. She was united in Holy Matrimony to George W. McFadden who preceded her in death on February 6, 2006. They had five children, four sons and one daughter. After her children were able to take care of themselves, she went to Deshazor Beauty College and became a beautician; she was self-employed as a beautician until she retired.
She was a member of the Lincoln Memorial Baptist Church, where she served on the Deaconess Emeritus Ministry, a member of the “Women of Faith” group, and the “Missionary Ministry.” She loved to bowl with the “Odds and Ins”; meeting with the “Jolly Dozen” Pinochle Club and attending Bible Study weekly with a group of friends. She also loved to travel. She made many trips to New York City, sailed on many cruises and has flown to many islands in the Caribbean.
She was preceded in death by her husband George “Smokey” and three (3) sons, Larry, Sr. George Ralph, Deryl, and a Grandson Jamal, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memory and to mourn her loss, a sister Virginia Byrd, a daughter, Patricia Belle (Daniel), a son Perry McFadden; two (2) daughters-in-law, Marie McFadden, Ronnie McFadden, and a former daughter-in-law Cora Cole-McFadden; six grandchildren: Lori, Larry, Jr., Melissa, Kyia (Lindsey), Tecla McFadden-Carter (James) and Esu McFadden; eight great grandchildren: Jamal Jr., Tyree, Jamia, Jaylin, Jikiya, X’Zavier, Dylan, and Devin; seven great-great grandchildren; fourteen nieces and nephews: Judy Dillard, Elaine Flowers (Randolph), Warren Kelley (Vanna), Andre Byrd, Barbara Brown (David), Michael Williams, Charlie Clark (Dorothy), Duffie Clark, Hattie Royster, Robert Bowman (Charlotte), Novella Jackson (James), Andrew Bowman (Gwendolyn), Barbara Johnson, and Della Phelps (Michael); and a host of other relatives, neighbors and friends.
