Gregory Alexander Hubbard, 54, was born on September 15, 1967 in Sacramento, CA to Edith Autry Hubbard and George Coleman Hubbard. He departed his earthly vessel on December 16, 2021 at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill.

Greg had a loving heart that was a source of encouragement, guidance, and joy for his family and everyone he encountered. Always a charismatic personality, he’ll be missed deeply. He grew up in California, Florida, New York, and North Carolina, and graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1985. While attending NC State University, University of Cincinnati, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he concentrated on math and computer science and had roles in tutoring math and developing computer programs used in molecular biology.

After college, Greg worked initially as a programmer for computer games and enjoyed many hours of “research and development” playing various video games. He transitioned to working in information technology at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in 2001 and enjoyed close to 21 years with the company. Greg received many promotions and awards during his distinguished career at GSK, most recently being promoted to director level. Many described him as the “best boss ever” and marveled at his memory and organizational skills.

Greg was an intelligent, diligent, and devoted person who always put 110% into everything. He did it all, from coaching his children in soccer, cooking meals for family and friends, working on endless home improvement projects, and gardening to managing multiple, global projects for GSK. He loved sports, especially watching his children and Carolina play. He often “coached” professional soccer, basketball, football, and formula racing teams from his favorite chair at home. Greg was a master of dad jokes and humorous stories.

Greg leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 26 years, Alicia White Hubbard; children, Brandon and Juliana Hubbard; parents, Edith Hubbard and George Hubbard (Debbie); sister, Rhonda Beatty (Bryan Sr.); nephews, Bryan Beatty Jr., Michael Beatty, and Aaron Davis; niece, Nicole Beatty; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

As a final honorable act, Greg gave life to others as an organ donor.
