“GONE BUT ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS”

Herbert “Herb” Lewis Brodie, Jr. received his wings for his journey to his heavenly home Saturday, February 24, 2024. He was born March 24, 1949, and was the oldest of the two children of Herbert L. Brodie, Sr. and Helen Alston Brodie. Herb and his brother, Ron, were reared by their grandmother, Mrs. Annie B. Alston, following the passing of their mother in Franklinton, NC. Growing up he was always called “Junior” by the family.

Herb graduated from B.F. Person-Albion High School, Franklinton, NC, in 1967 where he enjoyed playing on the basketball team. He was known as “Fuzzy” by his classmates and friends. Herb received his Bachelor of Science in Commerce majoring in Business Administration from North Carolina Central University in 1971. He became an NCCU Golden Eagle on November 5, 2021.

On September 7, 1974, he married the love of his life, Jacqueline Ann Holland. They met in a summer school psychology class in 1969 and from there it developed into a lasting friendship and 49 years of a beautiful marriage.

During his lifetime of employment, Herb held management positions with Taco Bell, Roses Stores, Eckerd Drugs, Kerr Drugs, and CVS Pharmacy. He enjoyed working in retail and received several promotions and awards.

Prior to membership at Holland Chapel, Herb was a member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Franklinton, NC. He became a member of Holland Chapel during the leadership of Rev. Lawrence R. Turner. As an active member he participated as a former usher, member of the Steward Board, Budget Committee, and Estimating Committee. He was a Life Member of the Lay Council.

Herb loved God, his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and family member. Herb enjoyed westerns, playing golf, attending Carolina Panthers games with his sons, watching sports, and working in the yard. He also loved to dress.

He leaves to honor his memory his loving wife, Jacqueline Ann Holland Brodie, three sons, Kelvin Lewis, (TaKeisha Harris), Gregory Jermaine, and Daryl Lamont Brodie, five grandchildren: Isaiah Green, André Lamont Brodie, Ayden Blount, Chilend Braedon Malachi Walker-Brodie, and Zyniyah A-million Brodie, great-grandson Nazé Isaiah Green, great-granddaughter Kodi LaRue Abernethy, and a special young lady, Kalayah Pridgeon. He is also survived by his brother, Ronimus C. Brodie (Ligia Austin-Brodie), three other siblings: Heretta Perry, Sharon McCowan, and Victor Perry, two additional sisters-in-law: Estelle Edwards and Rev. Kozie Holland Vaughan, several nieces and nephews, and a host of family members and friends.
