Mr. Homer Lee Evans Sr., oldest son of the late "RC" Robert Cavin and Geneva Evans was born June 1, 1930, in Durham NC. He departed this life on July 2, 2024 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones.

As a young man, Homer served in the United States Army and was Honorably discharged in 1956. During this time, he served in the Korean War. It is also during this time, he married the late Sadie Carlton Evans and from this union five sons were born.

By trade, Homer was a skilled plasterer creating smooth and decorative finishes on walls and ceilings throughout the city. Most of his work was done in the very halls of Duke Hospital and Burroughs Welcome Pharmaceutical Company. While his trade was his craft, Homer delighted in investing in properties throughout Durham. He prided himself in building businesses and securing a future for his family, demonstrating his strong work ethic for "his boys" to learn from. In addition to his trade and property investments, the Evans family also provided boarding rooms specifically for the female students of the esteemed North Carolina Central University.

Homer was an active and dedicated member of North East Missionary Baptist Church until his health declined. It is there that he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board for many years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his wife Sadie Carlton Evans.

He leaves to cherish his memory five sons, Homer L Evans Jr. (Judy), Michael D. Evans Sr. (Denise), Tony V. Evans Sr. (Selena), C. Terry Evans, and Emmitt C. Evans (Kandice); eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
