Horace Bridges Jr. Obituary

Horace L. “Lin” Bridges Jr. was born to the late Rev. Horace L. Bridges Sr. and the late Virginia Thorpe Bridges in Durham, NC on March 26, 1947.  He departed this earthly life on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.

He graduated from Merrick Moore High School, Class of 1965.  He received an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Durham Technical Community College, formerly Durham Technical Institute.  He earned two additional Associate Degrees through Verizon and completed courses in the Mathematics Department at North Carolina Central University.  He began his career with C & O Warehouse before joining General Telephone & Electronics Corporation (GTE) which later became Verizon.  When retired from Verizon in 2003, he was responsible for Logistics in the South Eastern Region of the country.  He was missed so much they requested him to return as a contractor for 3 additional years.

Since retiring he spent much of his time serving in ministries at Orange Grove Missionary Baptist Church, attending his grandsons sporting events and school performances, bowling, golfing and restoring his 1969 Mach 1 Mustang (Sally).

He was a deacon, a bible study teacher, an usher and sang in the Male Choir.  He was a special person with a gentle, kind spirit.  He always had time to help others and never met a stranger.  He loved life.  He was an awesome husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather and friend.  He will forever be remembered as someone who had a great ability to love and was respected by all.

To cherish his memory, he leaves the love of his life Ella Degraffenridt Bridges of Durham, NC; two sons, Horace L. Bridges III (Adrienne) and Christopher E. Bridges (Sherry); five grandsons, Horace IV, Christopher Jr., Coleman, Malcom and Roman; one sister, Gayle Bridges Harris (David); nephews, David Jr. (Nicol), Kenneth (Cameen), Nicholas; great nephews (Dixon and Camden); great niece (Dilyn); a host of cousins, relatives, friends, and spiritual sons and daughters.
