James Evins "Brute" McKoy

James E. McKay Sr. (Mini Brute) was born July 23, 1955 to Betty and J.W. McKay in Newark, New Jersey. He transitioned peacefully in Durham, NC at the age of 65 January 26,2021. 

Although he was born in Newark, New Jersey, James (fondly known as Brute, Boochie, Big Guy, Papa, and granddaddy) spent the remainder of his life in North Carolina. It was there that he was raised by his grandmother Christina Farmer and attended school grades 1-12th. 
After graduating high school, James took a new path and went to college at NCCU where he majored in Voice. It was there that he joined the University Choir and met the love of his life, Sheila Allen. After graduation, he married Sheila and started their lives together. Two years later they gave birth to their first-born James E. McKay Jr. and two years following gave birth to Shatrina "Nikkie" McKay. He worked as a Postal Carrier and Clerk until he retired 20 yrs. later. 

He spent the remainder of his life being a devoted husband, father/bonus dad, father- in-law to Desi rhea McKay, friend, brother, uncle, and grandfather to JaVon, JaMesia, and Ocean Mckoy. 

He leaves behind his wife (Sheila), children (James and Nikkie), grandchildren UaVon, JaMesia, and Ocean), family/bonus family, mom (Betty Jones), siblings (Earl, Earlwin, Sharon, Sandra, Donnell, and Loria, daughter-in -law 
(Desi rhea), and friends. His love will continue to live and carry on through us all.
