LeRyan Ishmael Scarlett

LeRyan “Ishmael” Scarlett son of Reta Fay Scarlett and the late Darryl Lynn McReynolds, was born April 14, 1984 and departed this life December 11, 2021.

He was educated in the Durham Public School System and received his GED from Western Piedmont Community College. Ishmael was enrolled at Wake Technical Community College.

Ishmael was a great sports fan and loved football, basketball and was a true sportsman at heart, he enjoyed fishing with his mother. It was a joy hearing him express attending the 2021 Super Bowl and the great time he had. Ishmael was a Carolina Panther’s fan. He loved people and he loved life and he loved his family. Ishmael was known best for taking care of the people he loved and always wanted to know “are you ok” or “you need anything”.

He was preceded in death by his sister Kellye Nicole McReynolds, his maternal grand -parents Willie Mae and Charlie Scarlett, and his paternal grand -parents Louis and Earlene McReynolds, Uncles MacArthur, Billy, Charles, and James, Aunts Cecelia and Margaret.

Ishmael is survived by his three children, Shayla Johnson, LeRyan Ishmael Scarlett Jr., and Ishani Scarlett, his mother Reta Fay Scarlett, his brother Isaac Isaiah Scarlett, one niece Charlie Kea, his fiancée Madreka Powell his uncles, Larry Scarlett (Charlotte) of Lithonia, Ga., Barry Scarlett, Michael and Larry McReynolds of Seymour In., his aunts Hilda Odom, Bonita Scarlett and Sylvia McReynolds of Seymour In., his God father Milton Elliott, his God sisters Christian, Tiffany, Kenya and Tina, his God brother Mario. Ishmael is also survived by his extended brothers and sisters Jamaal, Shannon, Ahmad, Cory, Cecelia, Ramon, Ashanta, DeWayne, Antonio, Sean, Shakira, Kellye and Chelsea and his aunt Lorie….he loved his family.
