Lena Evans Obituary

The service for Mrs. Evans will be live streamed on the Facebook Page of Fisher Memorial Funeral Parlor

Mrs. Lena Mae Riggsbee Evans transitioned on the morning of Tuesday, January 18, 2022, in her home here in Durham, North Carolina, at the age of 90.

She is survived by her sister Louisiana Walker, her children Wade Eades of Fort Washington, Maryland, Marreeser Evans of Durham, North Carolina, Nathaniel Evans of Jacksonville, Florida, and Gerald Evans of San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Lena Mae was also a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Evans, and two sons, Lawrence Evans and James Evans, Sr.

Mrs. Lena Mae graced the world with her presence first on April 22, 1931 (on earth day) to Mr. & Mrs. Adolphus Riggsbee in Chatham County in North Carolina.

She married the late Mr. Willie Evans around 1952 and she worked in the textile industry for nearly 40 years until she retired around 1993.

Her children and grandchildren will forever recall her as gentle, solicitous, earnest, forebearing, beneficent, and even comical at times. She enjoyed staying active and was productive at whatever she found to do. Ms. Lena Mae would often indulge in the culinary arts, especially when she'd fry up some of the best southern fried chicken for her family.

While her children towered over Mrs. Lena Mae, they never forgot the grandiose labor of love she consistently provided them and those within her sphere. At Mr. & Mrs. Evans' home, everyone was welcome. Drop by almost any day and could find Willie, or "Bill", in the living room in his recliner watching TV. The clock would tic and toc subtly next to the wall with an oversized picture of Jesus. You'd walk in the back door, and there sat Mrs. Lena Mae at the end of the table, reading the daily newspaper.

Mrs. Lena Mae Riggsbee Evans will be undoubtedly cherished, noticeably absent, but forever remembered.
