Lizzie Bethenna Cooper Buie, the oldest of seven children, was born on June 7, 1936 in Granville County, North Carolina. Her parents were the late Clarence and Seberita Cooper. She departed this life on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Carver Living Center.
She was a member of Union AME Zion Church in Wilton, North Carolina.
Lizzie attended the Granville County schools and was a graduate of G. C. Hawley High School.
She was married to Joe Buie; this union was blessed with two children, Francine and Danita.
Lizzie retired from the Durham Public School system.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two loving daughters, Francine Buie White of White Plains, Maryland and Danita Buie (Justin) of Reidsville, North Carolina; two special sons, Kenneth Royster (Celeste) and Phillip Powell (Pamela); a brother-in-law, Luther Buie of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; devoted cousins, Mamie Burwell, Alexander Blaylock (Thelma) an Ed Howell (Mary); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucy, Eula, Bexie and Emma; and her brothers, Petery and Clarence Jr.
