Mable (Mabel) Harris McLean was born on November 28, 1947 to the late Jesse Harris and Constella B. Harris in Durham, NC. She was educated in Durham Public Schools. She worked various jobs in Durham over the years and later retired from Valassis, Incorporated.
On November 3, 1989 she married Eugene W. McLean, Sr. who predeceased her just six months ago. Now they are joined again in heavenly bliss. Although they did not have any biological children together, she welcomed his children as her own. Her love also extended to several adopted daughters and sons. Mable was a fun-loving person. She always said, “if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all.” She always had time to listen, talk with and pray with people. She would welcome you in, sit on the living room couch and listen as she crocheted. You always felt loved after spending time with Mable. She was an avid bowler and won many trophies. Mable was also known for her crocheting skills. She used her talent to bless her family, friends and community with beautiful blankets.
Mable lived in the Walltown Community most of her youthful years and attended Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at West Durham Baptist Church when it was located on Thaxton Avenue in Brookstown. In her adult life, she became a lifelong member of Zion Temple United Church of Christ in Durham, N.C. She was a faithful member and served in various capacities such as the Usher Board and the Gospel Choir. She even crafted blankets for new babies at Zion Temple UCC.
