Marjorie Lola (Carroll) McDonald was called home to the Lord on May 7, 2023 in Cary, North Carolina with family members present. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 21, 1935 to the late Frederick and Anna Carroll. She was married to the late Laurence McDonald.
She was a lifelong, devoted Catholic serving at St. Vincent de Paul for over 20 years before moving to St. Wenceslaus where for over 40 years she served as sacristan, adult formation catechist, and parish council member; and when visiting her daughter in North Carolina she was an active participant of the Diocese of Raleigh’s African Ancestry Ministry and Evangelization Network (AAMEN) office’s events.
She attended Baltimore City Public Schools and the Community College of Baltimore. She worked various jobs: including for the Baltimore City Public School System, a private duty health care provider, a tax preparer, and as the church sacristan at St. Wenceslaus Church. She served on the Mayor’s (William Schaefer) Task Force for Equal Rights, and was recognized twice by the Archdiocese of Baltimore for her services in the church: recipient of the Mother Mary Lange Service Award (2000) and the Archdiocesan Service Award (2008).
She was a loving, but stern matriarch; mothering and threatening her biological children and many others peoples’ children with her disciplinarian weapon of choice, called the “Cat-O-Nine Tails.” Anyone who visited her home rarely left without eating something, or having a glass of her sweet tea with lemon. She loved family and holiday gatherings and looked forward to church functions such as, The Day at the Races and the Annual Church Picnic. She would definitely get excited about Tuesdays at the church for Mass and hanging out with her “Tuesday Crew.” She was an avid reader, liked doing puzzles, gaming on her Kindle, and loved watching sports and political commentators on TV. She especially enjoyed Family Feud with “her man Steve Harvey” as the host, and Rachel Maddow. She enjoyed traveling and was willing to experience new things. She was faithful, feisty, and a friend to the end.
She has truly been a “good and faithful servant,” model parent and matriarch, family historian, a Walmart connoisseur, a travel buddy, confidant, and lastly, an excellent patient.
She’s been blessed to see and share with multiple generations of her family: her children: Lola Thompson; Raymond (& Hester) Baltimore, II; Lynn (& KenRoy) Regester; Frederick (& Bonnie) Baltimore; Lauren (& Kevin) Green; Taurence (& Teisha) McDonald and her
grandchildren: Nakia, Angela, Antoine, Christopher, Raymond, III; Kenneth, Marcus, Tezzra, Aaron, KenRoy Jr., Malcolm, Frederick, Jr.; Brian, Marcus, Antonesha, Aliyah, Vincent, Martin, Gabriel, Shawn (deceased), Taurence, Jr., and Tauraz; 35 great-grandchildren, and 14 Great-great grandchildren
She is also survived by her younger sister: Lolita Carroll, her youngest uncle, B. Louis Wade, her brother-in-law, Garry McDonald, her “adopted children” Hughetta Dudley, Wayne Dudley, Keith Pritchett, and Dwayne Coleman, and a host of nieces, nephews, countless godchildren, cousins, and close friends.
