She attended Durham Public Schools, graduating as salutatorian of the Hillside High School’s Class of 1960. She attended Spelman College and graduated in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She furthered her education at Atlanta University, earning a master’s degree also in Sociology. Marsha was a life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., scribe for 60 Forever (Hillside High School Class of 1960), and participated with social and travel groups that enjoyed going to out-of-town NCCU games. She had a gorgeous voice and sang with several choirs at St. Joseph AME Church.
