Mary Ellen Joyner was born on January 18, 1952, to Julius Joyner and Helen W. Hudson in Washington, D.C. She moved to Durham, NC in 1962. Mary graduated Hillside High School class of 1970, received her Bachelor degree from Elizabeth City State University and her Masters of Business Administration from Strayer University.
Mary worked at GTE (Verizon) and retired after 30 years of service. She then worked five years for Fidelity Investments. In 2017, along with her mother, daughter and granddaughter, she established 4G’s Bakery and Catering. She was a faithful member and Mother of the Church at Agape and Power Deliverance Ministries. She also served on the hospitality committee and missions department.
The scriptures say that a man called his servants together and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents, to another he gave two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability. The servant that received five talents took what the master gave him and gained five more. Mary was that type of kingdom servant. She was a Mother to a multitude, Daughter, Grandmother, Friend, Sister, God-Mother, Wedding Planner, Counselor, Prayer Partner, Listening Ear, Helping Hand, Midwife, Decorator, Caterer, Seamstress, Teacher, Driver, and Cook (there was always room for her award winning potato salad). God entrusted her with many of us, His possessions. She used the gifts that God gave her to be a blessing to everyone that she could. Her love knew no boundaries and her compassion never ran out.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Jilliene Joyner-Brown (Victor); granddaughter, Javiah Brown; mother, Helen Hudson; aunt, Josephine Jones; uncles, Eugene Williams and John Williams; a congregation of loved ones; and a host of family and friends.
Matthew 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
