Mary Delois Goode Leach was born on Saturday, December 13, 1936 in Salisbury, North Carolina and transitioned on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Carver Living Center, Durham, North Carolina. Mary was the daughter of Ellie Leach, deceased and Mozelle Goode, deceased. Mary was predeceased by one sister, Emma L. Hoover and two brothers, Willie James Goode and Richard Goode.
Mary was educated in the Rowan County School System. Years later, Mary relocated to Durham, North Carolina. She lived in the Northern Durham area. She attended Union Baptist Church under the leadership of pastorate of Rev. Dr. Kennth Ray Hammond. Mary was an active member. She served on many ministries at Union Baptist Church.
Mary moved in with Denise Gamble “Peach Pie” and family after being displaced. She was cared for in their home for over two decades. She was an integral part of their family.
During that time Mary was very involved in volunteering at the Durham Arts Council, Centerfest, and the Blues Festival. Mary’s true passion was riding the Durham City buses, North, South, East and West. She was always looking for an opportunity to be in the road. Mary truly was a child of God, living off of grace and mercy, She became a PACE participant which gave her another opportunity to be a part of a group of wonderful people. Again, she looked forward to being picked up every day to attend PACE. She loved and enjoyed being a part of any activity at PACE.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories, son, Rex Allen (Pamela) Jefferies, three grandchildren. Allen L. Jefferies, Levitius J. Jefferies and Aniya L. Jefferies; eight great-grandchildren, two nieces, Shelia Hoover Cowan and Vivian G. Turner, a host of nieces and nephews and devoted care givers and extended family “Peach Pie” (Denise & James Gamble and family}.
