Mawuena Komla Agbeblewu

(October 26, 1971 – June 13, 2026)

Our Beloved Mawuena, who we refer to as Efo, signifying his position as the first-born son of the late Mr. James Agbeblewu and Mrs. Charity Agbeblewu was born on October 26, 1971 in Accra, Ghana.  He transitioned to glory on June 13, 2026.

He was married to Candyce Hester Agbeblewu, for almost 14 years.   He is survived by his wife, his children Samuel (from a prior marriage), Simeon and Simone, his mother Mrs. Charity Agbeblewu of Accra, Ghana, and his siblings Mrs. Eyram Agbeblewu-Gbadam (Mac) of Birmingham, UK, Dr. Senyo Agbeblewu (Benedicta) of Perth, Australia, and Mrs. Karen Agbeblewu- Torto (Nii) of Accra, Ghana; an adopted sister Clarrissa VanBoven (William) of Raleigh, NC.  Also, a host of nieces and nephews.

Mawuena attended Datus Preparatory School, Dansoman, Accra, Ghana.  He continued to Mawuli School in Ho, Volta Region in Ghana. After his Fifth Form, Mawuena proceeded to Tema Secondary School for his Sixth Form leading to his tertiary education in University of Professional Studies, UPSA, Legon.

Mawuena moved to the United States in 1995 and attended Georgia State University doing Software Engineering, continuing at Troy State University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science.

After completing his course, he joined IBM where he pursued his career as a Software Engineer for over 10 years. He received a Patent Application Invention Achievement Award for the invention of a Process for Dynamic Table Conversion.  He earned various certifications and made many other achievements to improve the performance of computer software systems.

Mawuena moved to the position of Software Engineer at MetLife Insurance in 2013.  Mawuena continued as a seasoned Software Engineer, when he moved to State Employees Credit Union (SECU) in 2023.

While he achieved professional success in the technology field, he was also the Founder of Brand Africa Group, an organization dedicated to promoting African culture and creating opportunities for collaboration within the arts and beyond.

The funeral service will be held the second week of July.  Burial will follow at the Harris Family Cemetery, in Rougemont, NC.
