McNeil Williams, transitioned peacefully from his earthly life at Duke Medical Center, in Durham, NC on Monday, September 16, 2024. McNeil was born October 12, 1931, to the late Sammie Williams and Lillie Mae McFadden Williams in Manning, SC.
McNeil was fondly known as “Chubby” by all that knew him. He was educated in the Sumpter County School System.
In the 1950’s Chubby moved to Durham, NC to pursue his dreams of entrepreneurship. He owned several service stations and an auto salvage yard for many years.
Chubby purchased and built his first home in 1969 on Elmira Street. He met and married the love of his life, the late Julia Bell (JB) Hawley Williams. The two were married many years until her death.
Chubby had a love for nice things, especially cars. He loved people, especially his family. He was very well-known in his community and never met a stranger. He loved to cook and entertain. He would give the shirt of his back and help anybody in need.
Chubby was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, eight siblings, and one daughter, Joanne Bittles.
Chubby leaves to cherish his memory, three sons, McNeil Williams Jr., Robert Alston, and Quedrith Thomas (Denriqua) all of Durham, NC; one daughter, Karrington Williams of Charlotte, NC; a bonus daughter, Courtney Thomas of Fort Mill, SC; three grandchildren, Quedrith Thomas Jr. and Zamya Thomas of Durham, NC, and Zoey Dixon of Fort Mill, SC; three siblings, Bernell Williams (Brenda) and Margaret Walker of Durham, NC and Eddie Williams (Ann) of Carthage, NC; a special friend Karen Solomon of Raleigh, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relative and friends.
