The service for Mr. Johnson will be live streamed on the Facebook Page of Fisher Memorial Funeral Parlor.
Orpheus “OJ” Fisher Johnson II, 52, was born April 21, 1969, to Anita Whitted and Orpheus Fisher Johnson Sr., and departed this life on June 7. He was raised by his great-grandmother, the late Ms. Clara Whitted, in the Walltown community of Durham, NC, enjoying his childhood around lots of love, family, and friends.
Orpheus graduated from Wake Technical Community College in 1988 and focused much of his career in apartment maintenance where he flourished in his work as a lead technician. He received the GCAA Bravo Award and was recognized as Service Technician of the Year in 2017 for his region.
Orpheus was a devoted partner to Charlotte J. Jones-Johnson for 23 years and a husband for 12 of those years. The loves of his life were his son, Orpheus “Binky” F. Johnson III, and daughter Carman Joenett Johnson. They loved and adored their father and will cherish every moment they had with him.
Orpheus is also survived by his brother and best friend, Antonio H. Johnson (Melchee), of Durham; his mother-in-law, Mamie Jones, of Laurinburg, NC; sisters-in-law Carolyn, Emanuella, and Marie Jones, all of Laurinburg, Thressia Ingram of Maryland, and Regina Pegues of New York; an extended family from the Garner, NC area; a host of cousins who were like brothers and sisters to him; and many other family members and friends.
Orpheus will be remembered as a man of faith, humble in character, and a believer in community. He was selfless (except when it came to a cup of coffee!), and that will be his lasting legacy. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.
