Mrs. Paulette Michelle Leake Johnson, the fourth of eight children born to the late James Vester and Odelia Upchurch Leake of Durham, NC, was born on July 27, 1950.  She departed from this earthly life on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at home surrounded by her family.

Paulette graduated from Hillside High School in Durham, NC in 1969.  She received her EKG Technician certification from the University of North Carolina at Chapel hill.  After achieving this certification, she worked for Duke Medical Center for many years.  She later moved into the tobacco industry and worked for Liggett and Myers Tobacco until she retired.  She returned to work as a finance Supervisor for CCB.  She retired (again) from Go Durham Transit,

Paulette was joined in Holy Matrimony to William Howard Johnson on June 30, 1984.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her baby brother Daniel Leake; and her granddaughter Cierra Giles.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Howard; one loving daughter, Lisa Denice Giles-Maxwell; two grandchildren, Darius Dwayne Giles and Princess Breanna Giles; four great-grandsons, Ka’Kari Giles, Camryn Giles, Mason Giles and Prince Richardson; three brothers, Charles Massey, James Henry (Frankie) Leake and William Junior Leake; three sisters, Patricia Ann Leake, Joyce Leake Peterson and Vernell Leake Harris; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
