Roger Lee Rucker Sr. was born May 6, 1938 to Irene Hadden and Nathan Rucker in Elberton, Georgia. He departed this life on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 peacefully at his home in Durham, North Carolina.
He received his education in the Durham Public School System and after living in New York for over 30 years, he returned to North Carolina and became a faithful employee to Durham Tech for a number of years before moving forward to OWASA, in which he retired in 2007.
He was married for 42 years to his high school sweetheart and loving wife Patricia Ann Rucker, who preceded him in death in 1999.
He helped as a landscaper at Pilgrim Baptist Church in which his mother and wife attended.
In addition, preceding him in death are his parents Nathan and Irene Rucker, siblings Addie Mae Rucker, Fannie Counts, Lillie B. Quick, W. J. Rucker, Nathan Rucker Jr., Curtis Rucker, John L. Rucker, William A. Rucker; little sister Lillian, twin sisters who died in childhood, and his grandson Douglas Rucker.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters Sylvia Foreman (Eugene), Marilyn Rucker of New York; two sons, Roger Rucker Jr. (Francine) and Daryl Rucker (Ann) of Florida; his brother Raeford V. Rucker (Tammy) of Kansas; twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews; cousins, sisters and brother in law and other loving relatives.
