Roosevelt Lee Rand Sr., 90, born on May 1, 1932 in Johnston County, NC, the only child born to the late Goldeon and Lessie Bumpass Rand. He departed this life peacefully on February 8, 2023 at the Duke Hospice Hock Family Pavilion.
Roosevelt was educated in the Durham Public School System.
Roosevelt was taught at an early age about work ethics. He worked tirelessly over many years providing for his family. He worked for the Colonial Stores including Krogers for over 20 years, later working for Burlington industries. He had a love for cars and trucks. He worked for several car dealerships as a car salesman. After retirement, he still pursued his passion for cars as a manager at Russell Motors until his health declined in early 2022.
Roosevelt was united in holy matrimony to Ms. Mary Louise Alston for 30 plus years and later married the late Marjorie Covington.
Roosevelt also loved cooking, visiting different car dealerships just to get a glimpse of what’s new and getting together with friends.
Roosevelt loved the Lord, he joined Mount Calvary United Church of Christ under the leadership of the late Rev. J. C. Cheek.
Roosevelt was preceded in death by his parents; five sons, Roosevelt Jr., Anthony, Harry, David, Orpheus Rand; one daughter, Vanessa Bass; late wife Marjorie Covington.
Roosevelt leaves to cherish his many memories, seven daughters, Joyce Neale, Marilyn Tatum, Vickie Rand-McCaden (Stanley), Gloria, Valinda, and Malinda Rand, all of Durham, NC, Priscilla Morgan of Burlington, NC, also his bonus children, SeDarice Covington (Ashley), Monique Teddar (Lewis), Carmelita Moman, all of Durham, NC; 42 grandchildren; 61 great grands; and several great great grands; a son-in-law, Leonard Bass; sister-in-law, Clarice Covington Greene; brothers-in-law, James Covington, Kenneth Wayne Covington and Tyrone Covington; also the mother of his children, Ms. Louise Rand-Brown.
