Samuel Snipes Jr was born in Durham, North Carolina on December 6th 1947 to Samuel Arthur Lee Snipes and Clara Couch Snipes.
His mother passed away when he was 2 years old and he was reared by his father. Sammy, as he was affectionately called, was educated in the Durham city school’s having graduated from Hillside High School in June, 1965. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from North Carolina Central University in 1969. Going on to receive his masters of education in vocational rehabilitation counseling at Coppin State University in 1979. He also received a master of arts degree from Central Michigan University in 1982.
He worked as a social worker at Harlem Hospital, Lincoln Community Health Center and Durham County DSS. He retired from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs in Baltimore, Md. As a vocational rehabilitation specialist. He served in the US National Guard and Amy Reserve. He is preceded in death by his mother Clara, father Samuel, Brother Charles and sister Daisy.
Survived by his son, Samuel Markas Snipes (Aisha), a granddaughter (Jewel). Four sisters, Flora Whitaker, Bettye Snipes, Rosie Snipes and Gloria Green (Fred), one brother Carl Snipes (Geraldine), a first cousin Terry Mayo (Ruth) and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and a special friend Annissa Battle.
