Silas (Buster) Greene was born on October 10, 1923 to the late Grant Greene, Sr. and Mary Greene.
He received his education in the Durham County School System.
Silas was employed at the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center as a cook for several years. He moved to Brooklyn, New York and worked for General Instruments, Inc. He retired after 30 years of service.
He returned to Durham in 1994 with his wife, Mary Alice Greene who preceded him in death in1996.
On Tuesday, September 24, 2019, Silas was called home to be with the Lord, leaving his burdens behind. He joined his parents, first wife Iva M. Greene, son Calvin Greene, daughter Annette G. Edwards, sister Bescile Barney, two brothers Willie Greene and Grant Greene Jr.; and two sons-in-law, Jonnie Edwards and James E. Chavis in their Heavenly pursuits.
He leaves to celebrate his life, a son, Donnell Greene (Virginia); a daughter, Gwendolyn G. Chavis a brother, James Greene; a daughter-in-law, Lena Greene two stepchildren; five grandchildren, Jonathan A. Greene, Steven Greene, Demetrius L. Edwards, Gwendolyn Dupree (Lance) and Wendy Else (Anthony); 11 great grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
