Durham, North Carolina - Rick Alston, lifelong resident of Durham, passed away at his home on February 10th, 2021 at the age of 72. Rick was the son of Hodgesty Alston and Virginia Williamson Alston.
He was a proud 1966 graduate of Hillside High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from North Carolina A&T State University. He also completed course work at North Carolina Central University School of Law. Rick served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge in 1977.
One of his proudest achievements was the Triangle Developmental Boxing Association which he founded for the benefit of at-risk youth and boxing enthusiasts. He loved sports and family, and was surrounded by both daily.
He is survived by his wife, Nettie Mitchiner Alston, his sister, Rita Alston-Roberts, his children, Tara Alston (Mike Thomas), Derrick Green (Kim), Latasha Alston, Vernetta Alston (Courtney), Danielle Hicks (Timothy), Antoine Alston, and Omar Alston, his twelve grandchildren, his niece Michelle Charles (William), his nephew Edward Roberts, his great-grandchildren, and many more cousins and dear friends.
