Vivian Lett Cradle Farrar was born in Durham, NC on March 12, 1941 and earned her place of eternal rest on May 9, 2018. She transitioned peacefully at Duke University Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pearl Lett Cradle, her eldest son, Edward Leon Cradle (Isabelle), and siblings, Jimmy Cradle, William Cradle and Cecilia Lane.
Vivian was educated in the Durham Public School system and later continued her matriculation at Durham Technical Community College where she earned her certificate in nursing. For thirty-eight years Vivian worked at Hillhaven Rehabilitation Center, Durham, NC until she retired in 2007. After retirement, she worked for a brief period as a private duty nurse.
Vivian was the matriarch of her family. She was a loving person with a great sense of humor and she loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. Vivian would do anything to help anyone that she could. She walked in the Fruit of the Spirit, “Love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control”, which was evident in her profession and in the lives that she touched.
As a child, Vivian attended a local church on Dowd Street and Greater Saint Paul Baptist Church. She later joined First Calvary Baptist Church, where she served as a Deaconess until her health declined.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband, who was also her Boaz, Deacon Larry Farrar; four children, Pastor John A. Cradle, Sr (Lynette), Laverne D. Cradle, Cheryl L. Jackson, Derrick W. Jackson, two step-children, Pamela R. Farrar, Roderick D. Farrar; two sisters, Cynthia Lunsford (Prather) and Kimberly Cradle Dixon; five sisters-in-law, Shirley Jones, Faydene Hatch, Barbara Justice, Luzania Thompson, and Ellen Cradle; one brother-in-law, Carter Farrar (Jeanie); eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Her radiant smile will be missed but never forgotten.
