On Thursday, May 20, 2021, Mr. Walter Lorenzo Turner, II departed this life. The son of the late Walter L. Turner, Sr. and the late Pearl Odessa Meekins Turner Beatty, Walter was born on September 17, 1938 in Leesville (Wake County), North Carolina. He was educated in the Wake County Schools and Hillside High School, from which he graduated in 1957.
After a three-year stay in the military, he worked as a heating plant operator at NCCU, Durham, North Carolina. He later became selfemployed as a tile mechanic, a job from which he retired due to health reasons in later years.
In addition to his parents and first wife (Lois Leathers), he is preceded in death by his sister, Shirley D. Brown (Monroe) and a brother, Jerome D. Turner.
He leaves to cherish the fond memories of his life to his wife, Mary Gail Turner; two sons: Walter L. Turner III (Glenda) and Lawrence Turner; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Leak; a brother, Rev. William D. Turner (Rev. Patricia); Grandchildren: Walter L. Turner IV (Kiona), Sierra Stewart, Christopher, Camille, and Malaysia; Great-grandchildren: Chris, Ava, Lucas, Savannah, Lauren, Taliah, Amber, Jayden, and Waltier; nieces and nephews: Rev. Monica Turner Leak, Melody Turner Monroe, Robert Coston, Jr., Larna Wheeler, M. Denise Meindl, Kenneth Brown, Phyllis Brown, Charlotte Rogers (Darrick), Kathryne Whitfield (Jeffrey), Sandy Turner Lucas, Crystal Brown, Shirley Brown, Margaret Holland, Mario Wheeler, Eric Meindl, and a host of other relatives and friends.
