Wayne Lee Manley, son of Otis Devone Manley and Ethel Jones Manley, was born December 6th, 1945 in New York City. He departed this life Monday, October 29, 2018.
Wayne attended Pine Forge Academy in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, a Seventh-Day Adventist private prep school. He later graduated from Merrick Moore High School in Durham, N.C. He attended North Carolina Central University.
In 1968 at the age of nineteen he entered the U.S. Army where he served in Vietnam for eighteen months. He received a citation and a medal from the Secretary of the Army for distinguishing himself by meritorious achievement in connection with ground operations against a hostile force in the republic of Vietnam during the period from January 31, 1968 to February 4, 1968.
Wayne was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member of Immanuel Temple Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
He was employed as a National Service Office for Disabled American Veterans in Los Angeles, California. Upon returning to North Carolina, he was employed at the V.A. Medical Center as a ward clerk for a number of years. He then became the Veteran Service Officer for Durham County. He held this position until his retirement. After retirement, Wayne continued to work on behalf of his fellow veterans. He assisted them in acquiring the benefits to which they were entitled, and making them aware of how they could receive help in becoming home owners and adjusting to life after military service.
Wayne is survived by Evelyn McRae Manley, his wife of forty years; his son Garland Lee Manley; an aunt; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
