His Beginning

Willie Frank Howard, Sr., was born on April 13, 1945, to the late William Melvin Howard, Sr. and Elizabeth “Pike” Overby Howard.  He was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at his home with family at his side.  Willie was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ethelene Howard; son Willie Frank Howard, Jr.; sister Dixie E. Howard; brothers William M. Howard, Jr., Carey M. Howard, Michael Howard, and Kenenth D. Howard; nephew Michael Howard, Jr.

His Journey

Willie Frank grew up in Pearsontown / Hayti area of Durham.  His parents were one of the first black families to own their home on Cecil Street.  He was educated within the Durham Public Schools and was employed by Bob’s Masonry and McManus Masonry Construction Company for more than 38 years as a brilliant brick mason with gifted hands.  His favorite hobby was fishing, and he enjoyed playing card games.  He was an unpredictable man with a big heart.  His presence was so well known in McDougald Terrace,, on Bernice Street, Bluefield and “on the hill” where left his mark, a mark that is still being talked about amongst his family and friends.

His Giving

Giving for him was better than receiving.  He would give you almost his last but if he had it, you would get it.  He adored his family and friends especially a dear friend and son-in-law Mark Holder and his favorites, his niece Della and nephew Carey, Jr.

His Legacy

He leaves to cherish his love and memories:  loving daughter Jessica Howard (Mark); beloved grandchildren, Stevie Howard (Alicia), Jaquetta Howard, Shaqueetta Howard and Markise Howard; great grandchildren Stevie Howard, Jr., D’Kari Giles, Christian Lowe, Ryleigh Howard, Cashton Howard and Jayce Pridgen; beloved nieces Dellemontre Blue, Terry Capers, Sharon Waddell, Tuwana Capers, Kimberly Wiggins, Teneice Parrish, Jackie Howard and Carey E. Howard; beloved nephews, Carey Howard, Jr., Byron Howard and Tony Howard; beloved great nieces, great nephews, cousins and neighborhood friends.  Also, to cherish his fun memories:  two special friends Wanda Jean Rogers and Linda Ann Harris.
